The new generations of students are much more multimodal and have their own ways of processing new learning. Precisely, active methodologies respond to this new reality. In this article we explore the effect of active learning on the development of generic skills in the undergraduate student body of a Mexican Higher Education Institution (HEI). Data is collected through a focus group. The sample corresponds to 12 udergraduate students in Administration career froma federal technological institute in the State of Michoacán, pertaining to the National Technological Institute of Mexico (TecNM). Results show that this group of students values active methodologies positively. However, they indicate that the majority of teachers carry out traditional lecture-based classes. We conclude that it is necessary to intagrate active methodologies in this IES in order to facilitate implementation of the TecNM’s educational model, in a more effective way.
